Nottingham Writers Studio approached us to work on this book – a collection of stories where ethnic minorities take the major roles. Written by a diverse range of 27 authors from around the globe their tales cross all genres while tackling issues of race, colourism and identity.
Featuring new work from some of Britain’s most talented Black writers (Yvvette Edwards, A cupboard Full of Coats, and Diriye Osman, Fairytales for Lost Children) Black Lives also stars many exciting new talents.
Funded by Nottingham Writers Studio and edited by Thom Seddon, with a cover design provided by them (courtesy of Kim Thompson) – we ran our eye over the manuscript, raised a few queries, typeset and proofed the book. We managed the print and delivery. Working on a book with so many authors can be tough going, but with Thom liaising with writers we were able to ensure that every author’s piece is included just as they intended it. The manuscript includes some difficult content, so we agreed to add a content warning at the start of the book highlighting some of the themes that occur in the text.
